Qualifications: MChD/BChD, BSc, MFDS RCSEd, PGCert, MOrth RCSEd, DDS Experience: 9 years +
Originally from the UK, Sowmya completed her dental undergraduate training at the University of Leeds in 2016, where she graduated with Distinction and was awarded two prizes. She then gained several years of hospital experience in London and Melbourne, working in oral and maxillofacial surgery, paediatric dentistry, and orthodontics. She gained her doctoral degree in Orthodontics from the University of Bristol and Membership in Orthodontics with the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2024.
Sowmya takes pride in her patient manner and communication skills, and enjoys building rapport and trust with her patients. She describes herself as a bubbly, easy-going, but diligent orthodontist. She is also passionate about education and teaching, having completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Professions Education, and continues to enjoy providing webinars and lectures to UK-based clinicians.
She has authored several publications and presented at various conferences in the UK and Europe, and recently presented her doctoral research at the latest Australasian Cleft Lip and Palate Association meeting. In addition, she attended the International Congress on Cleft Lip/Palate and Related Craniofacial Anomalies in Kyoto, Japan. Outside of work, she enjoys travelling with her partner, going to local gigs and festivals, and cooking or eating out, with food being one of her passions.
